I’ve been dealing with Scott and Associates for a few months now over an old credit card debt. At first it was just letters, but now they’re calling multiple times a day, sometimes before 8am. The person on the phone threatens things like wage garnishment and a lawsuit if I don’t pay a lump sum immediately.
I’m not even sure the debt is still within the statute of limitations, but they make it sound like I have days to act or else. I asked them to send written validation of the debt, but they kept pushing me to give bank info over the phone first. That felt off.
Has anyone successfully gotten them to stop harassing calls or settled for less than the full amount? I found a guide online that explains my rights under the FDCPA, but I’d love to hear real experiences – especially if you sent a cease and desist letter or disputed in writing. Did that actually work? Or did they just file a lawsuit faster?
Thanks for any advice. I’m in Texas if that matters for statute of limitations or court timelines.
